MACBETH: bird concept

This image, from August 1992 issue of National Geographic, provoked scenographer Kari Glass's emotional response for director Sue Raley's WITCHES-AS-BIRDS concept for her La Costa Canyon production of MACBETH.
Rugged majestic rams graze along the Alaskan alpine heath. Three mischievous magpies scavenge upon the decapitated head of this great fallen Denali Dall sheep slain by wolves along the raging Toklat River. This once regal ram is gleefully ravished and devoured by the all consuming corvid crones.

When shall we three meet again
In thunder, lightning. or in rain?
When the hurlyburly's done
When the battle's lost and won.
Where the place? Upon the heath
There to meet with MacBeth.
I come Graymalkin!
Paddock call. Anon!
Fair is foul, and foul is fair.
Hover through the fog and filthy air.
